Gathering of Nations Supports Indian Education Projects in
Chicago.

Billiken Parade, Title VII Indian Education Formula Grant Program
promotes “Native Excellence for 2009”
Chicago- For the first time in its history, Chicago Public Schools,
Title VII Indian Education Program will feature a float in the 2008 Bud
Billiken Parade representing the Chicago American Indian students and
their families. The theme promotes educational excellence for all Native
American Students.

Indian Education float is sponsored by the Gathering of Nations, LTD.
The Gathering of Nations is a non-profit organization founded in 1983 to
promote Native American culture and tradition, and to teach people about
the many contributions of Indigenous peoples. The Gathering of Nations
powwow is North America’s largest powwow, held annually in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. “We encourage all people to learn about the richness of
Native American and Indigenous cultures past and present, and continue
to find truth and enlightenment about all First Nations.” Gathering of
Nations, LTD.
Citywide American Indian Education
Council is the Native American Parent advisory for Chicago Public
Schools. Chairman John Dall (Ho-Chunk) says, “Our children are top
priority, and a major resource for our people, especially when we talk
about our sustainability in today’s society. With that said, the only
way to achieve that sustainability is to enhance our children through
creating, and developing educational experiences that promote our
children’s strengths. Educational excellence is the goal; Native
Excellence is what our children will achieve.” Also attending the parade
is Dr. Dorene Wiese (Ojibwe) member of the CPS, Citywide American Indian
Education Council and candidate for the National Indian Education
Association (NIEA) board. Wiese states, “I would like to see Chicago
American Indian students achieve at the highest levels.”
The Gathering of Nations proudly
supports the success of the Chicago American Indian and Alaska Native
Students who attend Chicago Public Schools and encourages all students
